Andrea & Kyles Early Morning Session

I did a friends photos not long ago & She was telling me how much she loved them and she said ” That’s a really good talent to have “.  That got me thinking about photography as a career in general….Is it really a good talent to have?  its nice for myself, I appreciate photos above most other material items. I have a terrible memory. There are some days I wonder if its getting worse or did I ever have one. I keep Photo journals and have piles and piles of photo albums, It my only way of accurately recalling any memory more then a year old. So Yes…for me personally It is a good talent to have. But as a career? I starting thinking about what it really is..after hearing Andrea’s response to the Film I made for her & talking about how the session went.  I think I’ve concluded that to be a Family & Wedding photographer, is to be a Mirror.

The goal is always the same. Show them who they are.

Its not easy.

You have a short time frame to create a trusting relationship, so much so that they are relax, comfortable & truly being themselves. I think A great photo isn’t always about the camera settings, but the relationship with the people on either side. Once the invisible force field that we constantly have up to protect ourselves is inched down just enough to let others peak into the depth that is yourself. The better the chance they will be able to mirror your true self back to you in the form of a photograph.
