Café Tiffany Red Deer, Alberta
When Catherine first messaged me about photographing her elopement wedding , It sounded very simplistic & well normal . Nothing crazy planned, no sparkler exit, no big dance, no Instagram famous ideas. Now I’m excited about every ones weddings, no matter who, no matter how they turn out . Its still a beautiful day & its so wonderful to see two people tell one another they love each other & see into a piece of their hearts. Because if I’ve learnt anything its that even the toughest cookie cracks a bit on their wedding day.
But if I’m going to be 100% honest, in the back of my mind I’m always a bit more excited when I’m shooting a wedding that is going to give me the “Instagram shot”, you know the one. The shot gunning bridal party, the keg standing bride, the bride that finds a a small town carnival and goes down the inflatable slide. WHY?
Maybe it just the photographer in me, maybe I just lost touch with why I do this, Maybe I got caught up in the “oh this photo got so many likes” feeling.
Catherine & Gil’s wedding checked that.
It was truly magic
It was a small gathering of close friends & family at Café Tiffany in Red Deer. When I arrived, they stood together greeting their guests & welcoming them into the dining room alongside their witnesses.
There was no first look and they had obviously already seen each other. But when the ceremony began, there was a nervous excitement in the air.
Catherine spoke something special to their witnesses before they walked up, then as she turned & locked eyes with Gil, an electricity shot through the room. Tears began to flow down Catherine’s cheek. I saw Gil’s face over come with joy. The electric shock just built as Catherine walked to Gil, bursting once she finally reach him. They locked arms and walked down the aisle (created by the dining room tables) to the front of the room, where all their friends & family were anxiously waiting.
The ceremony itself would give you chills. I’m not a crier, & I might have felt a hard tickle at the back of eyes. Janice Orr did an amazing job of leading them through a sentimental, humorous, meaningful & personalized ceremony. (side note, I would suggest her to ANYONE, she is also on my list of favorite wedding things in my Preferred Vendors.
After the Ceremony
Catherine + Gil were surrounded by their closet friends, and for the first time ever, I sat with them & their witnesses at dinner, which was such an honor & something I’ve never experienced before. They made me feel at home with them.
Once the delicious dinner was done, their first dance, they were actually serenated by one of their friends. When all was said & done, we ran off into the sunset for some shots!
Words can not describe the feelings of that day. Even as an outsider, it will always hold a special place in my heart.
I hope you enjoyed, IF your wondering why its all in black in white… Catherine told me she really liked black & white, so a lot of my favorites were edited that way. I thought it would be neat to do a full blog in black and white, because…
