But lets talk about Costa Rica!!!!
We first arrived in Liberia, immediately got our car & started driving east! We were determined to see as much of Costa Rica as we could in the short time we had there. So day 1 we drove all the way from Liberia to Talamanca. Even the drive gave us a chance to see parts of Costa Rica most travelers would miss out on.
The drive to the Caribbean Coast
Once we arrived in Talamanca, We checked into out hostel Rockin J’s and Colby was some what shocked to discover what a Costa Rica hostel was like! But I never said backpacking was easy! The drinks were cheap & the town was amazing, so we spent the next couple days exploring the coastline, trying new foods & drinks, finding out that you can by rum & coke in a can! We hiked into mazanillo national wildlife refudge.
Which was amazing by the way, we had planned a few spots that we could do the ceremony & Mazanillo was one of them! It was gorgeous for sure, but we wanted something special, & the Caribbean coast just wasn’t calling to Brit + Colby the way we needed it to.
We figured we had teased Colby enough for his distaste for hostel living & to be honest it was a tad bit rustic for all of us, So we moved to Coco Loco Guest house, Which was AMAZING!!!
Arrived in Talamanca
After leaving the Caribbean coast, we drove to Catarata Del Toro to hike to the blue falls, this had been considered a location for the ceremony as well, but still not JUST right, we had decided we would come back here for photos though! The route taken was new, so once again we got to see parts of the country that would have otherwise been missed.
After our long, muddy, sandal destroying hike. We continued west, trying to make it to the pacific coast to do some more exploring.
Well, Google maps may be helpful, but it sure doesn’t give you a heads up when your going to be driving at a 45 degree incline, up a road wide enough for 3/4 of a car, full of potholes that easily devoured our entire tire, with a sheer drop to our guaranteed death on one side & a mud covered volcano on the other.
Which actually wasn’t even the more nerve racking part
The worst part was that we were so high in elevation we were literally in among the clouds & couldn’t see more then a couple feet in front of the car.
At one point, there was a flat spot large enough for us to turn around & we almost did. However Paul thought it best to risk seeing what laid ahead rather then go down the nightmare we had just ascended . And thank god we did.
Another 4 minutes of white knuckle volcano hugging driving & we started to descend, into a wide open field of beauty & wouldn’t you know it, a two lanes road with fresh smooth pavement.
There’s no doubt in my mind that it was God that got us safely to the other side of the volcano, because gravity & weather was not on our side.
Arrived in Samara
After our brush with death we made it to the Pacific coast all in one piece! We arrived in Samara & checking into lil condo/piece of heaven.
The heat was extreme compare to the rain forest & what we had experienced on the Caribbean coast. So we did spend some time cooling off in the pool!
After a day of scouting, we had found it!!! Maybe it was the rocks that made me feel like I was at Dragon Stone, Maybe is was “Wilson”, the chocolate lab that showed us her special sunset place. But never the less, this was the place! This is where we would have the ceremony!
With the condo just a short distance, it would give us a perfect location for hair & make-up before we started the coast line hike.
We discovered it a few days early, so we had some time to relax before the big day!
Brittney + Colby March 29-2019
After a breezy, but warm hike along the coast. We finally arrived at the lookout & for the first time I think the nerves hit!
Paul ran the music in a distance & I kept back for Brit + Colby to take a moment to them selves to exchange their own vows in private. Sturdy Colby was finally starting to revile his excitement and nerves, with shaking hands her took Brit & they exchanged their private vows.
Instead of exchanging rings, They exchanged volcanic bracelets, as the jagged stones we stood upon were made of the same volcanic stones as the beads on their bracelets.
But before they could walk off into the sunset, some words needed to be spoken & I do’s needed to be professed. I think Paul did a magical job of keeping it light & still so personal for them.
It was a magical evening & I felt so blessed to be apart of it, Spending the days leading up to the ceremony made it all the more special for me
Its not over yet!!!
Remember when I said we wanted to go back to Catarata Del Toro .
Well we did!!! Let the photos continue! Now although Brittney impressed us all by hiking jagged pacific coast line in her dress, I wasn’t about to make her scale these cliffs in her dress!
Thats it!!! The Back packer elopement .01 Costa Rica
It went as great as I could have imagined taking Brittany + Colby backpacking across the country, Being able to be apart of such a special moment in their lives! Its all the things I love & I’m so grateful its what I call life!
We all had to get a group shot down at the base, because well look at it!!!
