A couple weeks ago, on a day that was supposed to be filled with supercell storms (whatever that means) we hoped in Shanes truck and drove to the top of Alberta.
Okay, its not actually the top of Alberta but it kind of felt like it! My sister, Shae, was convinced we would get a sunset and not going to lie, I was pretty skeptical. When we were almost to the top I caught a glimpse of the sun and it would have brought me to my knees if I wasn’t already sitting.

When my phone went off back in January and it was Shae Facetiming from Mexico, I thought she just wanted to see the girls and show them some of their resort room. A couple of minutes into the call when I finally, actually looked at her face the tears started falling. I think I yelled something like “What are you about to tell me!?” But I already knew, Shane had popped the big question!
Okay if you know Shae and Shane at all that picture sums them up pretty well. They both LOVE to have a good time. Shae has always been that person that walks into a room and lights it up. She has no reserves when it comes to being the centre of attention. Shane is the perfect guy for her. He is confident and hilarious and helps her to be exactly who she is meant to be. Together they are a perfect team.
When we were younger I was super protective of my sister. No one was allowed to call her a butt head, except for me. Sometimes I still have a difficult time remembering that she is a grown woman now that doesn’t need my help. Not just that, but she is strong willed and has an amazing head on her shoulders.
If I had to pick someone to take care of her and sit in a rocking chair beside her one day, it would be Shane. I started thinking of him as a brother a long time ago and my girls have been calling him Uncle since the day they could talk. Not to mention he puts up with Dusty for extended periods in the winter when they go snowmobiling together. I am so beyond thankful that my best friends fiancé and my fiancé get along so well, because they were going to have to spend a lot of time together either way haha.
They decided to pop a bottle of Champagne in celebration. With my most random music playlist on I wasn’t sure if we would get something to set the mood or “Baby got back.” I just knew it wouldn’t matter because these two are always ready for anything! It happened to be a romantic song! Which resulted in Shae crying, which resulted in me crying, which resulted in Shane looking at us like, “ohh shit, what did I get myself into.”
Just a quick side note.. I have never been in a wedding. Not a bridesmaid, nor a flower girl. I have never planned showers or stagettes. Yet for some reason I am the luckiest person ever and I get to be Shae’s MOH AND photographer. I am seriously so excited, but also, send help…
This mountain is pretty special to them. When they’re not dressed up so spiffy you can find them riding their dirt bikes. They ride them often to the top of this very mountain, and now I know why.. Incredible, breathtaking views. Now it will hold even more memories for them, and I am happy to hold a little piece of that. Thank you for taking me to the top of Alberta with you.
