Real couple inspiration number 2 for 2020! I have been hunting all over Canada for new and unique wedding venues & settings! One that I found close to home was Ambleside Lodge just in Canmore!
If you haven’t already- Check out my last big informational blog “Planning a wedding on a budget, keeping quality & cutting costs”
Before I get into this one, let me explain what I’m trying to do here.
For those of you that know little about the “photography & wedding vendor world.” So vendors all around the world like to get together from time to time & put on what they call “styled shoots” This is when vendors & venues bring their A game & donate time, talent & product to shoot a fake wedding. Sometimes, they have “shoot outs” When other photographers pay to come & take photos. Then they all use the photos from the “styled shoot” as content for social media.
Now in theory these styled shoots are a great idea right? Everyone gets to have fun, do what they do best & then use the content collected at the styled shoot on their social media and such.
I have always had a few indifferent feelings towards styled shoots though. In life & business the things I value most are honesty & authenticity. And the styled shoots I had been apart of gave me a “funny feeling” because they lacked honesty & authenticity. Of course if you hire America’s next top model, throw her in a $7000 dress and surround them by $2000 of décor its gonna look wonderful, but my question is – “Is it real?”
In general I find styled shoots to be meant for vendors & photographers not for clients. Now I can say with 100% confidence, I’m not here for vendors, I’m not here for magazines, I’m not here to climb the wedding vendor or photographer ladder. I haven’t forgotten the people who trusted me in the beginning.
My priority has always been & will always be THE COUPLE, the people that have entrusted me with their memories, the memories of their wedding & their family.
Real Couple Inspirational Shoots
My idea of “real couple inspirational shoots are similar & yet different then just a styled shoot. I still work with wonderful vendors that help me “keep it real” but with a few minor changes
1) I want you to see it all. I want you to see what YOUR day could actually look like! not just the 15 min over the top glorious ceremony set up with just the bride & groom. I want you to see how your small Canmore wedding would/ could ACTUALLY be like here at Ambleside Lodge.
2) REAL GUESTS- guests are the heart of the wedding!!! What would you day be like without them? for a lot of the locations I’ve chosen for 2020 the guest list will be small, but crucial!
3) Shake it up- Each inspirational shoot has a couple little tradition shakers! For this shoot I chose to have the bride & groom get ready together & do a reveal to all their guests. I also chose to make plants the primary floral décor- Because one I LOVE plants, two they are way more sustainable and three, after your wedding how kiss ass would it be to have a TON of plants to take home & give to your guests!??
4) Real Vendors- I use vendors that I trust recommending to my own bride & grooms
OK lets see how the shoot went & how YOUR small Canmore wedding could be like! They have 3 gorgeous double rooms to host your closest guests, with plenty of accommodations near by for any other guests! You’ll see soon for yourself how cozy the lodge could be for hosting your guest for the weekend! They are reasonably priced (155-250/night per room) and when you book all 3 rooms you get the entire lodge to yourselves!! The great space is large enough to have guests come that aren’t even staying at the lodge. With only a $500 surcharge to host the ENTIRE wedding here, I’d say its quite affordable for all it has to offer!
With a dinning area (we used the main lodge for our dinner, but there is a beautiful dinning area to use as well) and a spacious lodge area its easy to host a small Canmore wedding, dinner, reception & Party!
Being that Ambleside Lodge is right in Canmore, its easy to get amazing mountain shots just a few seconds down the road!
I’m not a Gin drinker, So I couldn’t tell you if its delicious or not. Give me a pot bar & I’ll let ya know. ( Next shoot idea?????)
If you were considering planning a small Canmore wedding, I hope this Inspirational blog has given you a few things to think about! I’m obviously obsessed with small weddings, So I’m trying in the future to plan a couple bigger inspirational shoots for everyone out there wanting to plan a larger wedding! If you have any questions never hesitate to ask! or check out my other blogs for more ideas!!
